Today, Norfolk Southern, GATX Corporation, Genesee & Wyoming, TrinityRail, and Watco announced the founding a new technology effort that will help transform freight rail shipping in North America.  The new venture, RailPulse, will facilitate and accelerate the adoption of GPS and other telematics technology across the North American railcar fleet.

The RailPulse partners, who collectively own nearly 20% of the North American railcar fleet, are seeking to accelerate the adoption of telematics to meet two specific objectives. The first objective of RailPulse is safety, while the second is to increase rail’s competitive position relative to other modes of freight transportation.
